holy poop do i have a lot to tell you!
this week i think i was actually called to the congo for my mission because we got 6 new investigators, all from the congo! which is great because i love their food. oh and i love them too.
here are the stories:
sister fleming had contacted a group of people on the street during an exchange with another sister. there was one guy there who told her to come and visit his family! it took us a while to get an appointment with him, but monday night we were able to finally fix a rendez-vous. we went over to his house and he has a beautiful family; wife, 2 daughters, and a son. we sit down for the lesson, and slowly the members of his family start coming in and we invite them to join as well. we started to teach the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the spirit was incredible. serge was a bit skeptical at first, but as the spirit testified to him, he got really serious. he had to leave as soon as we were done, but we were able to invite his wife to baptism and they have 2 children of baptism age! she told us she wants to teach her children to pray and to read the book of mormon all together! and then she asked what they had to do to be baptized. we were in shock (the good shock) after that lesson, but so grateful for this miracle from our Heavenly Father!
the second miracle we saw this week was when i was on an exchange with another sister. we had planned some lessons and some pass-bys but they all fell through and we found ourselves with an hour and a half with nothing to do. i didn`t feel like we should try and knock the area we were in because it had been knocked the week before and there was NO ONE on the street to contact. so i turned to the other sister and told her, "i`m not sure where to go, so i think we should say a prayer" so we did. then we decided there was one other investigator that we could try to see and then we could contact in her area. so we drove over and parked in what we thought was visitor parking, but it wasn`t, so we had to back up and then park somewhere else. after taking 10 minutes to find a place to park, we got out of the car. i hadn`t even had a chance to get my things out of the back seat before this girl was walking by, so i said hi to her and then said, "we are missionaries and share a message about Jesus Christ, are you interested in learning more?" (it was possibly the most awkward contact i`ve ever made but she was walking by right then! haha) and she said yes, and then i asked if she had time right then and she said yes and said, "follow me to my house!" and so we taught her the restoration and the spirit was super strong! and we got a return appointment for later that week. on friday we went back to regena`s house and come to find out that she lives with her 3 sisters and neice and they are all interested in coming to church! we taught the plan of salvation, and once again the spirit was incredible! as we were chatting at the end of the lesson, her sister asked if we were jehovah`s witnesses and we said no, and regena told us that when she saw us on the street she felt something and knew she needed to talk to us. and when we taught her she felt something and when we came again that day she felt the same thing. she said she had been praying to find a church to go to! wow!!!!! she`s 23 and super cool! we invited her to pray at the end of the lesson and she said she always has the habit to sing and then pray, so she and her sister sang in swahili for us and then she prayed. it was awesome!!
our last incredible miracle was another potential we already had named george and it has been so hard to set up an appointment with him but we finally got one for saturday night. we went over and taught him the restoration and the book of mormon. he has switched churches a lot in his life because he believes there is only one true church. he told us he was going to read the book of mormon and then tell us what he thinks about it and pray to know if it is true! he has a wife and daughter. in the closing prayer that he offered, he prayed to have the strength to read and ponder the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon! that never happens! it`s usually us praying fervently for our investigators to read the book so it was awesome!
this week we also went to montreal for mission leadership council. i love mission leadership council! president and sister phillips are wonderful! it is such a blessing to be able to work with them more. we talked a lot about consecration, laying it all on the alter and truly letting it go to God. and we also watched general conference which was SO chalked full of a million different wonderful things. i loved many things, but especially the emphasis on joy. i know this gospel brings joy. and i know that our Savior Jesus Christ IS Mighty to save. I love what was said about how we often can recognize that the Atonement is for sinners, but we don`t realize the Atonement is for saints as well. it is through the gospel of Jesus Christ, the wonderful plan of salvation (truly the plan of happiness!), and the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we find joy. i know it. i know it because i have seen in my life, in the lives of my family and friends, and in the lives of the people i`ve been so blessed to encounter here in canada. are we not so extraordinarily blessed!?
i love you all!
love,
soeur paine
