MAPLE SYRUP AND SNOW

dear everyone,

IT`S FREEZING COLD. that`s all.

this week was pretty good! we were very busy! we met some awesome new investigators! we have a new investigator named valerie. she is from haiti and in her 20`s and has a husband and a 3 month old baby girl. she was a referral from the zone leaders who met her knocking. we taught her twice this week. during our restoration lesson, she asked so many amazing questions, and when we showed her the Book of Mormon, she couldn`t believe we had something like this! in the good way! she was so excited. her eyes just lit up. unfortunately at the end of the lesson, she told us her husband doesn`t want her to meet with us anymore, but she said she will read and she will make a choice because if she has to, she will come to church by herself. we are praying for her.

this week i went on 2 exchanges, one with sister ferrell and one with sister agapinan. i love those sisters! with sister ferrell we had a very busy day! and one of our ward members we are working with gave us a whole litre of maple syrup for christmas! haha it`s huge! with sister agapinan, i bussed in her area and man, it was FREEZING. the wind chill is what really gets ya.

we had a sweet moment this week as we visited one of our returning less active members. she has had a tough life. she has been battling with addictions, and has been clean for about a year, but she has been so afraid to repent because she was worried she would do those things again. a couple of weeks ago, she sat down on her couch and decided to pray and finally repent. she said it was the longest, most amazing prayer she has ever uttered. she remembered everything she needed to repent for, her whole body was filled with warmth, and she could see a light. she literally felt the burden and weight be lifted off of her shoulders. she shared her testimony and said that she will always remember the way she felt 20 years ago when she was baptized, and she has spent the last 20 years hoping to feel that same way again. that night after she repented, she felt it. she felt clean. she felt the same way she felt when she was baptized.

i am so grateful i get to experience things like this, to see others partake of the fruit of the tree of life and see the joy of the gospel in their lives. i`m so blessed to be on this mission and to be with these people. i love them so much!

i love this christmas season where we get to testify even more that Jesus is the Christ. His name is Emmanuel, meaning "God with us". He was born to save us and love us and heal us. I love Jesus. I love my Father in Heaven. He was born in humble circumstances to accomplish the most selfless and incredible act of love that all of humankind will ever know. and He lives today to help us and to love us.

i love this quote by elder neal a maxwell, "last of all, I witness that He lives- with all that those simple words imply. I know I will be held accountable for this testimony; but as hearers or readers, you are now accountable for my witness- which I give in the very name of Jesus Christ."

i think of how many times we hear this testimony of truth, that we have a Savior and that He lives and how we have a responsibility to share it with everyone we love, which should be everyone. i`m so grateful i get to devote all of my time and efforts to it.

i love you all! have a great week!

love,

soeur paine
