st. malo

st. malo. i don't really need to say anything about it. imagine being perfectly content and you have st. malo. you wouldn't even know it existed unless you went there. tuesday night we wandered around and had dinner at a creperie. (croque monsieur for the first time and gelato. gelato erryday). we went to the beach and walked around because there was an amazing sunset.

i met this cat, which i named Chat. i love him.

st. malo has old city walls that surround the old port city (like pirates and merchants arrgggghh). you can walk up on top of it and look out at the ocean, or you can look out at the city. seeing that place at night, listening to the ocean, that's the stuff.

the city is so cute. we stayed inside the old city walls. the weather was perfect, everything was perfect.

after we walked around, we saw some more girls from our group sitting on a lower wall over looking the ocean. we sat there with them and talked and laughed. pretty soon a group of french youths came down to the beach. the brought an amp and their coke and vodka and were totally getting stoned. it was so funny because every five minutes or so more of their group would walk in and it seriously looked like they should be in west side story. leather jackets, cigarettes. we decided it was probably time to go back to the hotel which was too bad because we just really wanted them to start dancing and jamming to the music. next time.

the next morning kayla and i woke up early to go see the sunrise. we went on the beach then climbed up to the city walls and watched the sun rise. also that night i had a room to myself and it was awesome except i was scared.

after breakfast and getting ready for the day, we wandered around town. we went to a church called saint vincent. a funeral was just getting out for a war veteran, and it was one of the most incredible things i have ever seen. we were sitting high up on a garden wall overlooking the church and all these men dressed in veteran uniforms came out carrying flags. 7 french, one american. They folded the french flag over the coffin and the city bells tolled for several minutes.

we were so sad to say goodbye to saint malo. it was perfect.
