VERSAILLES// PART ONE

you can just call me marie antoinette 2.0 (the one who doesn't get her head chopped off and the people don't hate) because i LOVE versailles (yes, i acknowledge that i am sounding like a broken record)

but this past weekend we went to versailles. it's about a thirty minute train ride from paris and used to be the location of the french monarchy during the reigns of louis xiv- louis xvi. one of the coolest things about being in paris for school is that i am learning so much more than i would have if i was in provo. i am taking a history of france class and i am actually living in the history. paris is a city that is so modern but so historic. you can feel the spirit of the history here. so we are talking about the revolution, so we went to versailles. oh that's cool.

versailles is a million times more wonderful than i could have ever expected.

versailles is broken up in to five different parts. the chateau de versailles, the gardens, the grand trianon, the petite trianon, and marie antoinette's hamlet. also i literally have so many pictures so sorry not sorry because they're awesome, but i did split this post up in two because i decided to post 100 pictures instead of the 400 that i took. and really no picture will ever do it justice.

versailles is always crowded. luckily, we went during the off season so it wasn't too bad.

^^^this is the king's bed. this is also where he would have audiences with people. i mean wasn't that weird? he's in bed, and that's where people come and talk with him. and what would they talk about? would the peasants give him chickens like in princess diaries 2?

and now we enter the hall of mirrors. i have studied versailles so much over the years, and i've seen pictures and i've heard all about it, but nothing in the history of anything will ever compare to seeing the hall of mirrors. i could stay in there all day. i still dream of it. also, these pictures will never do it justice, sorry. there will never be any pictures that will do this room any justice. it was literally one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen. i stood there with my mouth wide open, and i was probably drooling.

^^^of course a mirror selfie in the hall of mirrors at versailles

the next couple of pictures are from marie antoinette's room. she reeeeally loved her flowers.

after the main chateau, we went down to the basement for the apartments. this is where children of the king would stay. they each had their own "apartment" that consisted of about four rooms, each one more lavish than the next.

now here's a million pictures of me in my courtyard because i'm the queen.

ok and by a million i meant three. until next time, the petite and grand trianon and then marie antoinette's hamlet (which was the end of a five or so hours tour of walking on cobblestones and rocks, but completely and totally worth it, it was my favorite!)
