dear everyone,
this week was a little poopy because i was sick! being sick on the mission is the worst because you need to be working and feel like you always need to be out working but i was dead so i had to sleep instead. so we lost some good hours of contacting and lessons, but i do feel better now, i just sound like i smoke 12 packs of cigarettes a day and cough like i do, too. but i`m getting better! and we were able to find some humor in it when we saw sister scott (one of the senior missionaries in our ward) on saturday and she looked at me and said, "you look white" thank you, i am aware.
despite the sickness we were able to see a really cool miracle. saturday we finished up some of our weekly planning and then had to meet some people from our ward. it is the end of the month and we were running out of klicks, so we decided to stop by an investigator family that is in the area. rafael and his family are amazing. they were found a couple of months ago. he has 3 of the cutest little girls and thanks to them, the sisters got in to teach them. the only problem was that he didn`t have a job and he couldn`t feed his family, so all of his time and efforts were spent on finding a job. he finally found one but it is in montreal, so he works mon-friday in montreal, is back here on saturday and travels on sunday back to montreal. we have kept in good contact with him and still drop by to see his family occasionally. this time when we knocked, he was home! and he was so happy to see us! he couldn`t have a lesson right then, but he said next friday he is coming home early and invited us over that evening. it was such a huge miracle and so cool that the first thing he wanted when he came home early was to see us and hear more about the gospel!
another miracle we had on saturday was that the elder`s quorum president called us and asked if we could go with him to home teach one of the sisters he visits who also happens to be one of the less-active members we have been trying to see the whole time i have been in gatineau! there was a lesson already set up, we got to meet her and have a return appointment! such a tender mercy!
this week we have been preparing for a member of the seventy to visit us next week. we want to be as prepared as we can be for elder bennett to come and give specific instruction to our mission and specifically to our zone here in ottawa. and as the stl`s in ottawa, sister garcia and i along with the zone leaders get the opportunity to have one on one meetings with him and president! it will be great! i was studying in preach my gospel chapter 1, which is our purpose as missionaries. there is a quote i love by president kimball,
"Now is the moment in the timetable of the Lord to carry the gosepl farther than it has ever been carried before...Many a person in this world is crying, knowingly and unknowingly, `Come over...and help us` He might be your neighbor. She might be your friend. He might be a relative. She might be someone you met only yesterday. But we have what they need. Let us take new courage from our studies and pray, as did Peter, `And now, Lord,... grant unto they servants, that with all boldness they may speak they word``"
president phillips has asked us to emphasize prayer when we meet with families and friends because prayer is the beginning of everything. i love how the quote by president kimball says to study and then pray to know what to do. i know when we pray for ways to help and experiences we will find them. the Lord will give us, just as He has promised, what we need to say in the very moment we need to say it if we are listening to the spirit.
i love you all! have a great week!
love,
soeur paine
