saturday-ing

"'Tis the season to be aware of the tiny magic everywhere."

my relationship with snow is a little bit temperamental. i love it when i don't have to be in it, and hate it when i have to walk to school. a fair weather friend is all i guess i'll ever be.

it started being really windy at this point, like a blizzard. i was almost blown away.

and, of course, snow angels are a must! no matter how wet your bum gets!

summer

and it's snowing and snowing and snowing and snowing...

and i needed a little bit of change with these January Blues, but bangs are a pain to grow out, and i know if i cut my hair i'm going to hate it in a month. and i'm going to get married if i cut my hair. i have a very, very logical explanation for this. basically i've convinced myself that because i like short hair, but i would never want to have short hair when i get married or at other significant and highly photographed events, i will end up getting engaged or something as soon as i cut my hair. it'll be one of those meet and get engaged in two week deals, i'm convinced. and no one can convince me otherwise!

and i am really good at talking myself into making rash decisions when i'm supposed to be watching devotional (i blame whitney for part of this decision)...

so i decided to do a melt on my hair (that's when your hair is darker on the top, and then progressively gets lighter as you get to the ends)

about one and a half really stinky hours later (bleach smells awful

it worked!

i was a little nervous about doing this to my hair this way because it kind of takes technique, but I watched a a bunch of youtube videos (ok, just one. but i did read like 2 articles), so i'm pretty sure i'm an expert. and i was just going to go even blonder at the ends, and i'm already pretty blond, so it couldn't be that drastic of a change.

it was really fun because kimberly was there, and she has these new headphones where you can't hear anything. you can't hear yourself singing, it's the best! so you put on the headphones with your hair wrapped in tin foil and all you can hear is the music pumping through your head and you can see your roommates making fun of you, but you can't even hear yourself, so it doesn't matter! we also went to this food place called cubby's. they have sandwiches, and they are SO good. go there sometime. and maybe decide to dye your hair and it actually will make you think of summer, because now the blond in my hair is what my hair looks like in the summertime after it's been bleached out by the sun, and I didn't have to get sunburned or more freckles in the process, which is pretty great!

*i'll put pictures of my when i take them

when it's really, really cold outside

there's this thing that I like to call the "January Funk." it's real i tell you! when your apartment starts to look bleak and like it's all the same color, and not even your bed is warm anymore.

you just can't escape the cold! when you wake up you best not be putting your arms out of your covers or else you will learn what the lowest level of hell feels like in Dante's Inferno (it's actually the coldest place in the universe, kinda ironic, huh?). And then depending on how many people took a shower before you (usually the max is one) the shower might be warm.

and then you go outside and start walking, and you realize how cold it is, and how long you have to walk. it pretty much makes you want to cry except for the hope that maybe when you are in the sun, it will be a little warmer (it isn't). i've found the trick is to distract yourself. thinking about cute little kittens in santa hats usually works.

see, pretty stinkin' cute, huh?

and everyone is in this january funk. walking around, going to school, going to work, going to the library, and repeat. who made this month anyway?

despite this january funk, whitney and i have learned that late friday night runs to get ice cream and then watching movies on my bed with forty blankets wrapped all around us is a pretty good thing. january funk = a really good excuse to cuddle. so, here's to cuddling and staying warm!

Bitter

I. am. bitter.

I know it's bad to be bitter, so please forgive me. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, why am I bitter you ask?

well, back home in Franklin, there is this little thing we like to call a snow day. No school. For 4 flakes of snow. That is all melted now. It's gone, but they still don't have school. yeah. I'm bitter. Why? because there is snow on the ground here. There has been snow on the ground in Provo for 3 days. and guess what? I have gone to school for the past 3 days. Now, this wouldn't be half as bad if I didn't have to walk outside to school in 15 degree weather, excuse me it was actually only 12 degrees.

Well, excuse me now, I have to go walk to school. If you don't hear from me soon you can know that I died from frost bite or freezing to death or something else extremely awful due to the severe lack of heat in the air.

Hello, my name is Erica but you can just call me an ice cube since that's what I will be from now on.

BRRRRR...DON'T FORGET THE UMBRELLA

Well, it's official! It's definitely fall here in Provo. Today was FREEZING!!! It actually wasn't that freezing, but it was raining ALL DAY, and well when you don't bring your umbrella because you can't remember where it is, and then you remember in the middle of the day while you were walking from the testing center to your dorm after being in class from 8 am- 5pm that it is under your bed, well you're just not that happy of a camper. But that's ok because I have a nice cozy room and hot chocolate and a letter from my little sister waiting for me when I finally get home and put on a cozy sweatshirt! I will definitely wear my rainboots and bring an umbrella tomorrow, because I know it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. I will be prepared!
